Wix, WordPress, Shopify, Hostinger pricing in France 2026
For a French business in 2026, Wix's Light plan is reported at 16.80 euros a month on annual billing, WordPress.org software is free but needs hosting, Shopify starts at 27 euros a month excluding tax on annual billing, and Hostinger's builder starts at a promotional $2.49 a month on a 48 month prepayment. These are not comparable products, and the first price is rarely the one you keep paying.
I read the official pages on 1 November 2026. Two of them showed me dollars rather than euros, so I say so where it applies. I also sell custom websites, which gives me an interest in this subject, so I will point out when you do not need someone like me.
Official pricing for Wix, WordPress.org, Shopify and Hostinger in France
| Option | Headline price | Billing | What to check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wix Light | 16.80 euros a month including tax, reported for France | Annual | Prices vary by location, plan names differ |
| WordPress.org | Free software | None | Hosting, domain, upkeep are yours |
| Shopify Basic | 27 euros a month, or 36 euros monthly, excluding tax | Annual or monthly | Payment fees |
| Hostinger Premium | $2.49 a month, renews at $10.99 | 48 months upfront | $119.52 today, euro price not confirmed |
Wix: check the plan names and the location
The official Wix plans page states that prices vary by location, and it served me dollar prices: Light at $17.77 a month, Core at $29.77, Business at $39.77 and Business Elite at $159.77, with yearly subscriptions paid in full at purchase and a 14 day money back guarantee on the first upgrade to a Premium plan. There is also a free plan. I could not load a French official page directly, so for euros I rely on La Fabrique du Net, which reports Light at 16.80 euros, Essentiel at 30 euros, Business at 40.80 euros and Business Plus at 178.80 euros a month, tax included, on annual billing. Note that French sources use different plan names from the dollar page. Confirm the figure in your own checkout. On the plans I saw, accepting payments starts at Core rather than Light, so a site that needs to sell will not stay at the headline price.
WordPress.org: getting started properly
WordPress.org lists the software as free, and the current version was 7.1.4 when I checked. The cost lies elsewhere. You need hosting and a domain, and the project's requirements page recommends PHP 8.3 or newer, MySQL 8.0 or MariaDB 10.11, and HTTPS. Older versions run but are end of life and may expose you to security problems.
Getting started is straightforward. Choose a host that meets those requirements, then either use its automated installer or follow the official guide, which needs a server login, an FTP program, a text editor and a database. The documentation says installation usually takes under five minutes, and that is true of the installation. Choosing a theme, writing pages, making backups and applying updates is the real work, and it does not end. If nobody at your company will take this on, budget for maintenance or choose a builder.
Shopify: only if you sell
The French Shopify pricing page is the clearest of the group. Excluding tax, Basic is 36 euros a month or 27 euros on annual billing, Grow is 105 or 79 euros, Advanced is 384 or 289 euros, and Plus starts at 2,100 euros. Card fees through Shopify Payments start at 1.5% plus 0.25 euros on Basic, and a third party payment provider adds 2% on that plan. It is an excellent tool for selling, and an expensive one for presenting a business that sells nothing online.
Hostinger: read the renewal line
The official page I reached showed dollars: Premium at $2.49 a month, Unlimited at $3.49 and Cloud Startup at $7.99, each prepaid for 48 months. Premium means $119.52 upfront, and it renews at $10.99 a month, more than four times the promotional rate. I could not confirm euro prices, so check the French checkout. The offer can still be good value if you stay for the term, but compare it over the period you will actually use and include the renewal.
Which one should a French business pick?
If you want a presentable site this week with no technical duties, a builder such as Wix or Hostinger is reasonable, and you do not need a developer. If you want control and will write a lot of content, WordPress.org makes sense as long as someone is responsible for updates. If you sell products, start with Shopify's pricing page and count the fees. All of this assumes you will write the pages and handle search visibility yourself, which is where most of the time goes.
A provider becomes worthwhile when the site must bring in clients in a competitive area, connect to your business tools, or replace an existing site without losing search traffic. For a sense of what that costs in France, see my article on website prices for small businesses, in French. Those are market ranges and not my rates, since I publish no prices.
The next step
Add up 36 months for each option, including renewal, domain and payment fees, and write next to it how many hours you will spend yourself. That one sheet usually settles the question. If you would rather have the site built, see my website offer: I am a freelance developer based in Metz, I reply within 24 business hours, and if a builder is enough for you, I will say so.
