Sylius vs Sylius Plus: features, pricing and support
The difference between Sylius and Sylius Plus comes down to licence, modules and support. According to the official comparison, Sylius Standard is free under the MIT licence with community support, while Sylius Plus is a commercial licence starting from 800 euros a year, with SLA-backed support and paid modules for B2B, multi store and more. If you need few of these modules and have a developer, Standard is often enough. If you need several, price the licence against the cost of building them.
Sylius vs Sylius Plus at a glance
| Item | Sylius Standard | Sylius Plus |
|---|---|---|
| Licence | MIT, open source | Commercial |
| Published price | Free | From 800 euros a year, then on quote |
| Support | Community | SLA-backed |
| Response time | No guarantee | 1 day |
| Account contact | None | Dedicated Customer Success Manager |
That table is based on the vendor's own page, so read it as a commercial presentation. An SLA, or service level agreement, is a contractual commitment on response. Check in your contract exactly what "1 day" covers, because a reply and a fix are not the same thing.
What the Plus modules add
The official page lists these modules: B2B Suite, Marketplace Suite, Advanced Multi-store, Returns Management, Multi-source Inventory, Loyalty System, role based access control, Partial Shipment, Request for Quotation, Product Configurator and Subscription. It also mentions advanced user permissions, admins per channel, multiple pricing lists, advanced search and one page checkout as features of the edition.
Translating this into business needs helps. Advanced Multi-store is about running several legal entities on one instance. Multi-source Inventory is for stock held in several places. Role based access control limits what each employee sees in the back office. Partial Shipment splits an order into several deliveries. If none of those sentences describes a problem you have today, you probably do not need them yet.
Multi store: do you really need Plus?
This question causes the most confusion. Sylius Standard already works with channels, and prices are stored per channel. So several shop fronts with different currencies or prices do not automatically require a licence. The Plus layer is relevant when you need more separation, such as several legal entities or admins restricted to their own channels. List your organisational constraints first, and then see whether they call for it.
How pricing works, and what it leaves out
Sylius explains that the full package is priced on your online gross merchandise value, the total value of your online sales. In a March 2024 article on its modular licence, it also lists factors such as geographic scale, B2C or B2B model, number of modules, and whether you are migrating or upgrading from Standard. That same article mentions monthly, yearly or lifetime payment. Since it dates from 2024, confirm those terms with Sylius.
So the 800 euro figure is an entry point and not a budget. The licence also does not include implementation. These figures are Sylius's published ones and have nothing to do with my own rates, which I give on request after looking at a project.
A simple way to decide
| Your situation | Reasonable starting point |
|---|---|
| B2C shop, one company, specific logic that a developer can build | Standard |
| One precise gap, such as quotes | Price one module against custom development |
| B2B with organisations, price lists and quotes together | Ask for a Plus quote and compare |
| Several legal entities, large internal teams | Plus is worth serious evaluation |
| Need a vendor's contractual commitment | Plus, as a community forum cannot offer it |
In every case, ask the following before signing. Is each module compatible with the version I will run? Listings such as the B2B Suite page name versions up to 2.2 at the time of writing, while Sylius 2.3 has been out since September. What happens to my shop if I stop paying? Can I see the source code of the modules, and can my own developer change them? What does a renewal cost when my sales grow, given that the price depends on them?
When neither edition is the right answer
Sylius is a framework for projects with specific needs and a developer to look after them. If you sell a simple catalogue, have no developer and want the lowest possible effort, a hosted platform is likely to serve you better, whichever edition you pick here. And if your project requires a large team, an agency listed in the official partner directory may be better suited. I am an independent developer and not a Sylius partner, and I earn my living building these shops, so bear that in mind when reading my advice.
Next step
Write down the five features that would really change your business, and mark each one as standard, Plus module or custom build. That single page makes every later conversation cheaper. If you would like a second opinion, you can send it to me through my Sylius developer page. For B2B specifically, you can continue with my article on Sylius Plus B2B features.
