Freelance Sylius developer.
I am Pierre-Arthur Demengel, an independent developer based in France. I build, take over and upgrade Sylius stores, and I help you decide whether Sylius is the right choice in the first place. You talk directly to the person writing the code.
What I do
- Build a custom store. When the way you sell does not fit the screens of an off-the-shelf platform.
- Take over an existing store. With its order history, customers and invoices.
- Upgrade to Sylius 2. Code and plugins prepared before the switch, so sales keep running.
- Audit a store. When it is slow, unstable, or nobody dares to change it any more.
- Maintain and extend. Security updates, fixes and new features after launch.
Which e-commerce platform should you choose?
Sylius is not always the answer. This is the advice I give before any project starts.
| Your situation | My advice | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Simple catalogue, standard checkout, no developer on hand | Shopify or a similar hosted platform | Faster and cheaper to launch and run. |
| Large catalogue, many ready-made modules, PHP team | PrestaShop or Adobe Commerce | A big ecosystem of existing extensions. |
| Business rules specific to you: pricing, B2B, multi-channel, custom back office | Sylius | The logic lives in your own Symfony code and is designed to be extended. |
| Existing Sylius 1.x store still in production | Plan the Sylius 2 upgrade | Staying on an unsupported version becomes a security risk. |
A real project
The Belgian online store Coucouroucoucou ran on an ageing stack, and its way of selling fitted no standard screen. I took over about 15,000 orders with their customers and invoices without interrupting sales, wrote 14 custom screens on top of Sylius, and moved the store to a dedicated server. Full case study (in French).
Common questions
Who is this page from?
Pierre-Arthur Demengel, an independent web developer based in Metz, France, working as a freelancer since 2024 under the name Création Site Pro. I build Sylius and Symfony projects and work remotely in English and French.
Should I hire a Sylius agency or a freelance developer?
Choose an agency if your project needs several developers at once, a project manager and round-the-clock on-call support. A freelancer suits you better if you want one person who writes the code and knows your store. One person also means limited capacity, so I tell you in the first exchange whether I can meet your deadline.
Is Sylius the right platform for my online store?
Often not, if your needs are standard: a hosted platform will be cheaper. Sylius earns its cost when your business rules do not fit an off-the-shelf tool and you can rely on Symfony developers over time.
Have you delivered a real Sylius project?
Yes. For the Belgian store Coucouroucoucou, I took over about 15,000 orders with their customers and invoices without interrupting sales, added 14 custom back-office screens, and moved the store to a dedicated server.
